L'iPad utilisé par Delta pour communiquer avec ses pilotes d'avions

La
compagnie aérienne américaine Delta Air Lines, partenaire de
Air France-KLM, teste actuellement 22 iPad comme outil
de référence pour les pilotes (comme déjà initié par Alaska ou
American Airlines, vu respectivement
ici et là sur VIPad.fr)
mais aussi, et c'est la nouveauté, comme outil de
communication entre la compagnie et les pilotes.
Pour se faire, Delta installe sur l'iPad tous les manuels de bords au format PDF via GoodReader, l'application de cartographie "Jeppesen Mobile TC" dont nous avions parlé ici, le navigateur internet gratuit Journey pour accèder à une application nommée iCrew (incompatible avec Safari Mobile). Plus une application météo dédiée incluant les données radar "maison". Sans oublier les email et calendrier professionnels de chaque pilote.
L'accès à l'internet se fait via le système WiFi embarqué Gogo. Pour l'instant limité aux vols domestiques, Delta étudie le WiFi sur les lignes internationales.
Avantages de rester connecter en permanence avec ses pilotes? Delta veut envoyer les alertes de sécurité en temps réel, les nouvelles routes, etc,... Et aussi à l'avenir développer les checklists électroniques, les messages aux navigants des agences gouvernementales de contrôle de la navigation (NOTAM).
A noter que tout comme les passagers, les pilotes ne seront autorisés à utiliser les iPad qu'avant le décollage et au-dessus de 3 kilomètres d'altitude.
